It’s not exactly a secret that buy neon signs are being phased out in favor of LED signage, but did you know that they’re actually incredibly dangerous to the environment?
So, what’s so hazardous about neon signs? Well, if we’re talking about older versions of these types of signs, it turns out that there might be a danger to our ozone layer. Older neon lights require extra equipment and their energy output is much higher than LED lights. So the materials from those old lights can get into the atmosphere and mix with chemicals from cars or other sources to break down ozone in the upper atmosphere.
1. Neon Signs Are Basically Radioactive
Neon lights are highly toxic to aquatic life. They can cause heavy metal poisoning and they release C14, manganese, copper, lead, and mercury into the water as they break down. So if you’re thinking about painting your room yellow, then stay away from neon lights! Because neon lights contain a high amount of arsenic in them.
2. Neons Release Tiny Spiders Into Your Home
Neon signs emit a special wavelength of light that causes spiders and other insects to come alive and take over the inside of your home. That’s right – they’ll feed on your paint or wallpaper until they die or get caught in an electrical socket.
3. Neons Are Not a Cure for Migraines
If you take off your shirt and expose yourself to neon lights, then you can actually cure your migraines. Turns out these lights are the cause of migraines, as they make all kinds of different types of chemicals enter your body. These chemicals all make it harder for your brain to process information – which is why you get a headache and squint at the light.
4. Neon Signs Are Inevitable
If you ever find yourself in a neon sign, then there’s a 99% chance that you’re going to get a migraine from it. And not only that, but there’s a chance that you could also get genetic damage from their power from all the chemicals.
5. Neon Signs Have Unhealthy Effects on People’s Eyes
Neon lights hurt the retina, which could lead to eye diseases and certain types of dementia.
6. Neon Signs Cause Brain Damage in Children
Children who are between the ages of 3-4 have a higher chance of having brain damage due to neon signs than kids at other ages. These neon lights also cause amnesia and epilepsy in kids of course!
7. Neon Signs Are Poisonous to the Environment
The US EPA says that neon signs are causing a nutrient pollution problem, even though they’re not a part of an industrial process. These signs cause nitrogen and phosphorus to be added to the water in bodies of water like lakes and rivers, due to the chemicals that break out of them after they’re exposed to sunlight.
8. Neon Signs Aren’t Safe for Babies
Babies under the age of one shouldn’t be exposed to these types of lights because they can feel their effects at such an early age. Neon lights cause childhood disability, as well as Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
9. Neon Signs Are Dangerous to the Animals Around Us
Neon signs emit strong radiation that causes problems for animals, especially sea turtles and fish. These signs can even start fires on beaches, sometimes causing a beach fire in the process.
10. Neon Signs Don’t Last Forever
Neon signs are sold in the punch bowl, but they end up breaking down and fall apart over time. Neon signs are only good for about a year and a half before they start corroding, flaking, and falling off. And by the time it’s the end of its life, it’ll look pretty bad and you’ll have to throw it away. But if you just wanted to get rid of any glowing white light in your house, then we would definitely recommend upgrading your other sources of light!
11. Neon Signs Are Dangerous to the Transhumanism Movement
Neon signs can cause cancer in humans and also disrupt maturation processes as well. For example: exposure to neon lights in high amounts can be harmful to infants’ eyes because neon lights are essentially like ultraviolet energy rays that enter the body through the skin.
Summary:
Neon signs are dangerous for your eyes, for the environment and for an unborn child too. So it’s best to just leave them alone, perhaps in a museum where they can be showcased but not actually turned on and used.
